A field guide to the neighbourhood

Ara Damansara LRT station and neighbourhoodAra Damansara · 2026 · Photo: klia2.info

“Every neighbourhood has a genius loci — a spirit of place. Ours just needed someone to write it down.”

Ara Club is a volunteer-run, ad-free directory of independent businesses in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. It started as a shared notes file between neighbours and grew into something more considered.

Every listing has been visited. We write our own descriptions, take our own photos, and make our own judgements. We don't accept payment for inclusion — we just find places worth knowing and write about them honestly.

If you live or work here and know a place we've missed, we'd like to hear from you.

The Ara Club method

i.

Discover

We find places the way neighbours do — on foot, by word of mouth, by noticing what's good. Tips come from residents, business owners, and people who eat out a lot. We read every recommendation.

  • Resident tips Reviewed weekly
  • Owner submissions Considered
  • Walk-in finds Always
ii.

Visit

Before a listing goes live, an editor visits — always unannounced, always anonymously, always paying. We take our own photos, write our own descriptions, and make our own assessment.

  • Anonymous visit Every listing
  • Self-funded Always
  • Photography Our own
iii.

Publish

We write honestly. If a place isn't good enough, we don't list it. If it declines, we update the entry. Every listing is a recommendation — inclusion itself is the endorsement.

  • Publication bar High
  • Updates Ongoing
  • Paid placement Never
